Chapter 9

“Ouch,” I groaned.

The couch I slept on was lumpy and felt as hard as a rock. Gill said that he doesn’t get paid, so he can’t afford luxuries like comfy couches. I don’t get paid either, so I feel for him. After I pried myself up despite my aching body protesting, Gill and my team went to the hole and entered the mines.

“It’s so dark and gloomy down here,” said Quin, the word ‘here’ echoing down the tunnel.

Then we heard a sound,

PPPRRVVVVVV

It wasn’t the drilling sound. It sounded like a propeller. Then something came around the corner. It had a propeller (knew it) at the end of it, and the body was round and squat, and someone had painted it sea green.

It turned to us and began to sound a deafening siren.

“Intruder alert! Intruder alert!” Out of its sides popped arms with spinning saws at the end.

“Uh oh,” said Gill.
